The paintings of Nana Funo symbolically represent graceful animals, plants, figures and letters that cover the whole pictorial space, regardless of its size. The repeated layers – created using various techniques such as acrylic paint, dyes, and masking, possess “a spatial complexity that cannot be captured through such mere expressions as those of floating, overlapping, or depth.

The core spirit of bamboo has always been admired by Chinese literati, while lacquer is a cultural medium with iconic oriental element. This work combines points, lines and surfaces in a free style. The contrast and mixture of lacquer and bamboo has formed a material tension between different textures. The entire shape is structured like a stone, bringing a rich visual feeling.

The act of folding, such as folding screens, origami, folding fan, or beautiful wrapping are deeply rooted in Japanese culture. For Nishimura Yuko this concept is the basis of her work as she reinterprets this culture of folding in her own way.

Resonance is a site-responsive art installation designed for the iconic main dining hall of Shisen Hanten. The artwork reflects and celebrates the excellence of Shisen Hanten’s culinary legacy and its international debut of this best-loved Szechwan restaurant in Japan. Inspired by the beauty and serenity of water, the artwork offers the essence of giving and regeneration that is embodied in the essential function of the restaurant—a convergent space that brings warmth, excitement, and joy to
guests near and far.

A master of form and glazes, Hideaki Miyamura pairs his soft matte hare’s fur and glistening starry night glazes on this delicately shaped vase. The combination of these two glazes creates a stunning gradient, transitioning from rich, deep purples dripping down the thin neck into vibrant blues that envelop the robust body. The hare’s fur glaze, cascading over the body of the vase in thin tendrils, complements and emphasizes the swelling of its center.

The atmospheric qualities within negative space and what lies within and beyond are Hasegawa’s thematic muses, and what is left to the imagination within her paintings are both mystic, divine and poignant.
